We could tell you stories all day as to why we help.
But here are a few reasons for our  having this organization.
Everyday we leave for work and see animals dead on the road and strays
walking our streets, and it needs to stop. There is a reason for this activity and we call it lack of education and dedication.
Our group is here to help train our community to better care for our pets and to bring a more pet friendly community to Athens & Limestone county and learn their needs for living in our world today.

                                                            "PRINCE"
Our first four legged K9 friend needing help was successful with surgery on his eyelids. His surgery was  needed  to prevent damage to the cornea and to relieve pain due to hair abrading the cornea. This is a small poodle named "Prince". His family was not in a financially stable way to cover this surgery
and after qualifying for our help we where happy to help with this and they were able to keep Prince healthy and happy and keep him as a wonderful pet.
      'Chloe'
"Chloe"
                                                           "Chloe"
This sweet little dog was hit by a car and needed her leg amputated.  Her owners were not able to cover the financial burden of her bill and asked for our help with the surgery.
They qualified and now she is well and a very happy healthy little girl. In addition, her family is  better educated on Chloe's outdoor activities.

 "Jelly"
Our next story is of a young Weimaraner female who had to leave her first home due to a sickness.  We were  asked for our help in placing her in a new home. While she was staying with Cindy Buckman it was decided it would be easier to find a nice loving home for her if she were trained so Cindy took her to school and taught her some obedience and home manners.
Not long after she finished school her new home was waiting.
Now she is happy healthy and in a loving home. Her name is "Jelly".
John & Squeak at our Splish & Splash
John & Squeak at our Splish & Splash
"Squeak"  &  "Buddy"
This little guy has quite a story behind him and all I can do is start from the day we saw him.
I was on my way to work to train an obedience class  and when I pulled in House of Paws parking lot I saw two little dogs sitting at the side of our building cold and scared.
As I approached them they both ran to the field in behind our training school.
So my friend Pam Neely said unlock the building so I can get some food to lure them back up here hoping to catch them.
As she placed the food on the ground both dogs looked out from the trees in curiosity.
After about three weeks of tryingto catch them, they began to come up closer and closer. Pam said I will catch one today and she did.
At that moment a student drove up and said Pam if you catch that dog I will adopt him for my husband to have a friend to prowl around with.
Her name is Maryleen Richardson. Sure enough Pam caught this dog about two minutes later.
WOW how great caught one and had him adopted all in less than 5 minutes.
This little dog was going to be a surprise for her husband John's birthday.
So we had just enough time to do a vet check and vaccinate and groom him before he was to make is grand appearance to John.
As we worked with him and got to know him we learned how sweet and cute and playful he was and could not understand how and why he was found were he was unless someone just dropped him on the side of the road.
I sure hope that was not the case.
John's birthday arrives, and so does the beautiful little dog.
John was speechless but in love instantly. He named him "Squeak"
Because when they saw each other Squeak let out this high pitch squeak
as to say There You Are!
John started bringing Squeak to class and bonding with him even more.
They both went quite far in class and both have lived and loved happily ever after.
As for the other little dog it also was caught by Pam and she said I love a challenge so I think I will keep you . They also both bonded and lived & loved happily ever after. She named him "Buddy"
Some of the animals that need our help are just needing vaccinations and some just need food  but some need much more. We are wanting to help all of them if we can, but if we don't get funding this project will not work. If you would like to make a donation just fill out donation form. We would be grateful for any donation and or volunteers.
If you would like to sponsor our fund raising organization we would be most grateful, for more information you can go to our Wall of Fame page .
"Dora"
This story is bitter sweet. We received a call about a dog abandoned behind a house in knee-high grass in the August heat.
Once we saw the dog we cried because she had been left to fend for herself.
The people who left her moved away and we don't understand why they left her but they did. We did find out who they were but that didn't help with this problem. We took her with a police escort to the vet where she had a complete evaluation. She needed to be  shaved for all her mats and  shampooed. We had two teeth pulled while she was being spayed. Once she was checked and vaccinated and cleaned up, Cindy carried her home.
The girls at the vet( Town & Country Animal Hospital)named her "Dora"
from the cartoon because she was so curious about everything.
Dora was a Golden Retriever with beautiful hair once she cleaned up.
Cindy had her for about a week when she started having seizures.
They started one at a time and worked into cluster seizures.
She carried her back to the vet where she was evaluated and watched for a few days and nights-- it was plain to see this was something she has had for a long long time. The epilepsy was bad and it was impossible to try to adopt her out with this condition so the board and Cindy with the vet decided euthanasia was the only option.
She had continued her seizing even under anesthesia which meant bad news for her brain. So to put her out of her misery was our only option.
We have had said stories before but this one was very hard for me because not two years age I had my own dog die and he also was epileptic.
Caring for animals is not easy and you will run across hardship, so before you just decide you want a pet, think of all areas of good & bad that you would have to be responsible for. Financially & emotional & physically.
They can be wonderful companions and they can be tiring and headstrong but all in all they can fill your heart like no other.
